Made from ancient Kauri recovered from Northland, New Zealand, this wall sculpture is my representation of Maori new year, when The Pleiades star system arrives in the morning sky during the winter.
If the cluster and the Matariki star are bright and high in the sky, it’s a signal of well-being, peace, and good luck for observers.
This piece has a beautiful grain structure and resonant colour. The koru represents new beginnings for a new year, while the cornucopia and spiral arms represent each of the 7 stars in Pleiades system.
Dimensions: 100cm x 100cm
